Women and girls uprooted by conflict likely walk miles a day. Yet they are not training for a race or building endurance--they walk great distances to gather firewood and clean water to provide for their children and families, putting their lives in danger as they fight to survive.
Your donation will help refugees who have been forced to flee war, persecution, or natural disaster. In 2013, I will set off on my bike to cycle for 2 charities. The first ride will connect Burmese communities in the Puget Sound, Vancouver BC, Spokane, Tri-Cities and Portland, OR (approximately 2000 miles). This ride benefits the Northwest Communities of Burma. The second ride will take place in Burma with a loop around the country (approximately 1000 miles). This ride benefits IRC. My efforts will culminate as a volunteer IRC educator in a Thailand refugee camp. Watch and track my journey here and at http://www.facebook.com/NorthwestAllBurmaSports, where you can also sign up to ride a few miles with me. Thank you for increasing awareness and helping to restore safety, dignity and hope for refugees abroad and in the northwest. This is also personal journey for me. I will be returning to my birthplace after 50 years, and will ride to honor my beautiful Burmese mother Violet.
